Frigidaire 70-Pint Dehumidifier Review
I really like this unit. It has a display to let you know the current humidity level and turns itself off when the set point is reached. It is a little noisy but not as bad as my old Whirlpool. I would recommend this to anyone with a damp basement. I unboxed the unit and turned it on without waiting the one hour as instructed in the users manual. It was shipped on its side. I ran it for four hours before I realized my mistake but seems to be working ok.

I bought the 70pint version last year after my old dehumidifier died and I started getting mold and mildew in my basement. I have a 200 year old home with a basement approximately 5 feet below ground depth so fairly damp. This unit’s been great so far and I love the fact you can set the humidity level (I keep at 50%). With all the rain we had in the northeast this past March it’s been running steady for over 4 weeks but without issue. I have it drain direct to my sump.

Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier Review
After reading a bunch of reviews I decided this was the unit to buy. Because I needed it ASAP I bought mine from Lowes. As one reviewer has mentioned, the grill work is different than the one shown, but it is almost certainly the same mechanism. I’ve had it for about two weeks, and so far, I’m pleased. I ran it on continuous mode for a couple of days as per the manual, then set the humidistat for 55%. It has really been sucking the moisture out of the air, and our basement’s somewhat musty smell has improved noticeably. I have a drain hose hooked up and can see a fairly high and steady drip rate. I like the fact that the hose connection is over the drip bucket so all you have to do to go to bucket mode is to unscrew the hose. All the others I’ve seen require you to punch out a plug at the hose connection leaving you pretty much stuck with one option or the other. The fan moves a lot of air, so it is somewhat noisy – I wouldn’t want it in a bedroom. However, we can’t hear it in our basement until we get to the bottom of the stairs. Judging from the users comments, most of the other dehumidifiers on the market fail after a few months. This one seems to be well built, so I hope it is an exception. However, as a safe guard, I took out Lowe’s extended warranty, and am keeping my fingers crossed.

This dehumidifier works well and will easily remove an entire tank (50 pints) of water from the air in about 16 hours. I have owned it for a couple of weeks now and have let it run nonstop without any problems. It’s rather loud but it’s fine for our basement. It has a large 50-pint reservoir or you can hook a garden hose up to it and it will drain continuously. It has a high and high setting and different modes for continues operation or a thermostat so you can set it to certain humidity level. Many people say that it blows lots of hot air but it is rather cool air that is expelled from ours. It’s strong enough that you could almost use it as a fan. Overall I would consider this a good buy.

Got this unit at Loewe’s, good price, and it dries up the basement and adjacent room. It seems to cycle on and off quite frequently during some periods; perhaps it is just trying to get the humidity just right. It is rather annoying. I may have to call service on this. Re continuous drain: I screwed a new garden hose onto the inside nozzle. At first it didn’t drain, but filled the reservoir. Then I realized it was NOT draining bec. the new hose had loops that didn’t lie flat and there wasn’t enough fall to drain into the floor drain. Once I put weights on the hose so it was entirely horizontal, the unit began draining just fine; no build up in reservoir.

I bought this to replace a Soleus 40 pint unit that died after 2 years, 9 months. I found the Soleus to be an energy hog, and Soleus customer service was horrible. The only plus for the Soleus was that it was quieter than the Frigidaire. I connected the Frigidaire up two days ago and the mustiness in my basement is already almost completely gone. I have it set up for continuous draining. The instructions say to connect a garden hose to the dehumidifier for continuous draining, but I did something a little different. I bought a female hose end at Home Depot for $1.99 inserted a piece of clear flexible 5/8 inch tubing to it, connected it to the dehumidifier and the other end of the tubing is inserted in to the drain pump of my air conditioning system. It works fine that way. The fan is rather loud in the high setting, but I only hear it if I go down to the basement. The Frigidaire seems superior to my old Soleaus in several ways. It has a wider range of humidity settings, is energy star compliant, is structurally sturdier, and has a flap that you just lift up to use a drain hose instead of the punch out on the Soleus. I guess you can tell that I will never, ever buy a Soleus product again. I would recommend the Frigidaire and will provide follow-up to this review after the unit is running for several months.
